Battery electric vehicle (BEV) registrations across Europe continued to climb in July, with fully electric cars accounting for more than one in four new vehicles sold as strong growth in France and Germany helped offset weaker demand in several other markets.
BEV registrations across 16 key European markets increased 13.6% year-on-year to 224,266 vehicles in July, according to data from E-Mobility Europe, New Automotive and Fier Automotive. Fully electric vehicles accounted for 25.7% of total new vehicle registrations during the month.
Nearly 1.5 million BEVs have been registered across Europe so far this year, representing a 30% increase from the same period in 2025 and highlighting continued momentum in the region’s shift toward electric mobility.
France recorded a 35% BEV market share in July, with 44,378 electric vehicles registered. Germany followed with a 29.3% share and 78,609 registrations, reinforcing the two markets’ growing contribution to Europe’s EV expansion.

The Nordic and Benelux markets continued to lead Europe in electrification. Denmark recorded the highest BEV share at 80.1%, followed by Finland at 52.6%, the Netherlands at 47.3%, Belgium at 42.8% and Sweden at 42.6%.

However, some markets experienced a slowdown. Italy’s BEV market share dropped to 5.9% in July from 10.1% in June after previous incentives expired. Poland and the Czech Republic also remained among Europe’s least electrified markets, recording BEV shares of 4% and 7.5%, respectively.
“Electric cars remain one of Europe’s biggest success stories in 2026, and governments must deliver stable, predictable policies to stay part of that growth,” said Chris Heron, secretary general of E-Mobility Europe.

The July figures underscore the importance of consistent government incentives and policies as European markets seek to accelerate EV adoption and support the transition toward cleaner transportation.
