Adani Ports Inks Pact with France's Leading Port Marseille Fos

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Port of Marseille Fos, the top port in France and a key Mediterranean entry point, to enhance collaboration on trade facilitation, port innovation, and energy transition.
This collaboration suggests establishing an IMEC Ports Club to enhance coordination among crucial ports on the India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) route, bolstering the connection between India and the European Union.
This finalizes the IMEC route for India-EU trade, which has been enhanced by the FTA between India and the EU, referred to as ‘the mother of all deals’ by PM Narendra Modi.
At the eastern entrance of IMEC, APSEZ's ports in Mundra and Hazira create a multimodal logistics center linking South Asia with West Asia. This MoU enhances Marseille Fos as the western European gateway of the corridor, increasing capacity by about 70 million tonnes and broadening IMEC's influence further into Europe.
Marseille Fos ranks among the largest integrated multimodal port ecosystems in Europe. The Adani Group stated in an exchange filing that this collaboration creates a more organized and coordinated route to enhance trade flows between India and the EU.

Encouraging the IMEC route as an eco-friendly, safe, and competitive option for Eurasian trade routes, through collaborative campaigns, involvement in global trade fairs and roadshows, and specific B2B interactions, is a key aspect of the agreement.
“India has already taken a leadership role in advancing this corridor, and with the conclusion of the India–EU Free Trade Agreement, trade between the participating countries is expected to grow manifold,” said Ashwani Gupta, Whole-time Director & CEO, APSEZ.

At APSEZ, our ports located in Hazira and Mundra on India's western coastline have successfully created a smooth route for the first and middle segments of the corridor. Through this MoU with the Port of Marseille Fos in France, we have now effectively linked the last segment to Europe. This collaboration will greatly enhance the sharing of information and resources among all involved nations, thereby reinforcing economic cooperation and supply chain robustness
Hervé Martel, CEO of the Port of Marseille Fos, added, “We are pleased to strengthen our partnership with APSEZ at a moment when the IMEC corridor is entering a decisive phase."

India and Marseille stand at the two extremities of this future trade backbone, giving both ports a major responsibility in structuring and energizing this new route. Together, we intend to mobilize and federate the ports involved, and to act as strong advocates of a more efficient, resilient and sustainable connection between our regions.
