Skoda Explores Europe Exports for India-Built Kylaq

Skoda Auto is assessing the export of the India-made Kylaq compact SUV to Europe, a step that might enhance its Indian operations' involvement in the automaker’s worldwide product strategy and offer a more affordable crossover option to the Fabia hatchback.
The proposal is in its initial phase, with the company reviewing European homologation standards, emissions regulations, and engine selection.
"We are exploring the potential to introduce Kylaq to Europe, but there are numerous obstacles, including many homologation issues," said Skoda Auto Chief Executive Klaus Zellmer to our affiliated publication Autocar India.
Skoda envisions a potential business opportunity for placing the Kylaq beneath the Fabia in Europe, as the exit of numerous small vehicles has diminished the supply of budget-friendly entry-level options. Zellmer stated that the significant price disparity between the Kylaq produced in India and the Fabia offers a business justification that merits investigation.
The Kylaq marks Škoda’s initial sub-four-metre SUV and is the third domestically created model in the Volkswagen Group’s India 2.0 initiative, following the Kushaq and Slavia. It is built on the localized MQB-A0-IN framework and produced at Škoda Auto Volkswagen India's Chakan facility close to Pune.
Kylaq emerges as Skoda's main volume contributor.

The export factor follows the Kylaq's support of Skoda's entry into one of India's biggest and most challenging passenger vehicle segments.
As per the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, Skoda recorded sales of 46,872 Kylaqs in the year 2025. The model represented approximately 64% of the company's Indian sales of 72,666 vehicles for the year and contributed to Skoda's volumes more than doubling.
The Kylaq surpassed 50,000 total sales in February 2026, approximately one year following the start of deliveries.
Skoda's total sales in India rose by 7.5% year on year, reaching 38,894 units in the initial half of 2026. The firm stated that the Kylaq maintained its primary volumes, bolstered by the Kushaq, Slavia, and Kodiaq.

The Kylaq rivals the Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, and Mahindra XUV 3XO.
India’s sub-four-metre SUV segment grew by 6.3% to approximately 1.29 million units in FY26. The Kylaq recorded sales of 49,089 units in the year, capturing roughly 3.8% of the market segment. The Tata Nexon topped the segment, with the Tata Punch, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, and Fronx following.

Although the Kylaq is still a minor competitor compared to the leading brands, it has expanded Skoda’s clientele and provided the company entry into a volume segment that the bigger Kushaq and Slavia did not serve.
