UK Regulators Assess Risks of Anthropic AI: Reports

UK financial regulators are in urgent talks with the government’s cybersecurity agency and major banks to assess the risks linked to Anthropic's new artificial intelligence model, according to reports.
Bank of England, Financial Conduct Authority, and HM Treasury officials are collaborating with the National Cyber Security Centre to evaluate potential vulnerabilities in critical IT systems identified by Anthropic’s latest AI model, according to reports.
Reports suggest that, over the next two weeks, officials from prominent UK banks, insurance companies, and exchanges will be briefed on the cyber security risks linked to the Claude Mythos Preview model in a session with regulators.
Anthropic did not respond to Reuters' request for a statement, while the BoE chose not to provide comments, and the Treasury, NCSC, and FCA were unavailable for immediate remarks.

The AI startup declared that the model is being launched under “Project Glasswing nL4N40Q0LK,” a regulated initiative in which designated organizations can use the unreleased Claude Mythos Preview model for defensive cybersecurity purposes.
In a blog post from earlier this month, the startup revealed that the model had already identified “thousands” of critical vulnerabilities in operating systems, web browsers, and other widely used software.
