Versace Names Pieter Mulier as Chief Creative Officer

Prada Group and Versace made a public statement revealing the selection of designer Pieter Mulier to the esteemed position of Chief Creative Officer at Versace, signifying the commencement of a fresh era for the renowned luxury brand.

The corporations announced that Mulier will be reporting to Lorenzo Bertelli, the Executive Chairman of Versace, and will be responsible for enhancing the historical excellence of the Italian fashion brand while guiding its artistic vision towards the future.

“When we considered the Versace acquisition, we identified Pieter Mulier as the right person for the brand. We believe that he can truly unlock Versace’s full potential and that he will be able to engage in a fruitful dialogue with the brand’s strong legacy. We are excited to begin this journey together”, says Lorenzo Bertelli.

Originally from Ostend, a Belgian coastal town and port, Mulier pursued his architectural education at the prestigious Brussels Institut Saint-Luc. Following this, he was offered an internship at Simon's eponymous fashion house, eventually becoming the senior head designer in 2002. Mulier joined Simons in relocating to Milan in 2006 when Simons was appointed as the creative director of Jil Sander. Their collaboration continued in Italy until 2011.

Mulier possesses an extensive background in cultivating unique artistic styles for prominent fashion brands around the globe. Throughout his professional journey, he has collaborated extensively with renowned designer Raf Simons and played a significant role in the achievements of esteemed fashion houses including Jil Sander, Dior, and Calvin Klein, ultimately assuming the position of Creative Director at Maison Alaia.

After completing studies in design and architecture, Mulier was chosen by Simons to join him at Jil Sander, where he held the position of Head of Accessories, Shoes, and Bags.

He went on to assume the role of Design Director at Christian Dior, then transitioned to Global Creative Director at Calvin Klein, before ultimately being named Creative Director of Alaia.

In December 2025, the Prada Group finalized its purchase of Versace, closing a transaction that was initially revealed in April 2025. As part of the agreement, Prada agreed to acquire the entirety of the brand from Capri Holdings, a US company, for approximately $1.38 billion.

The deal, considered one of the most significant in the recent history of the Italian luxury industry, resulted in the iconic Medusa-adorned fashion house returning to Italian ownership following a period of time under different ownership.

He is now set to undertake his biggest task yet, revitalizing one of the most well-known labels in Italian fashion. During the 1980s, under the leadership of Gianni Versace, the brand experienced a significant rise to prominence, establishing a successful empire with designs acclaimed for their vibrant colors, daring patterns, and alluring silhouettes.

Following Gianni's untimely death in Miami in 1997, his younger sibling Donatella assumed control, subsequently cultivating her own reputation as a distinguished figure in the world of fashion.
