EU Launches European Legal Gateway Office in India

The European Union inaugurated its inaugural European Legal Gateway Office, a comprehensive center for Indian students and professionals pursuing prospects in EU member countries.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar stated that the new initiative showcases the increasing depth, confidence, and maturity of the strategic partnership between India and the European Union.

The European Legal Gateway Office in India represents a pioneering initiative in a partner nation and will promote safe, legal, and informed migration and mobility from India to EU member states within the information and communication technology sector (ICT), according to the 27-nation bloc.

It will assist Indian students, researchers, and professionals in the ICT field by offering clear and trustworthy information on mobility options and their diverse skills and qualification criteria throughout all EU member countries, it stated.

It will further assist EU-based employers and higher education institutes in connecting with Indian talent.

Jaishankar and Henna Virkkunen, the European Commission's executive vice-president for technology sovereignty and security, were present at the launch event.

Jaishankar emphasized India's role in global talent markets, particularly in digital, scientific, and emerging technologies, driven by the nation's youth and expanding skill set.

We are experiencing a time of significant change in the world economy. Mitigating risks is an increasing focus. "Supply chains are undergoing reconfiguration," he stated.

"Technology is transforming the nature of work." Demographics are diverging significantly across different regions. The idea of a global workforce is becoming a present-day truth. The external affairs minister stated that nations that can link talent mobility with capitalizing on opportunities, while maintaining legality, transparency, and fairness, will be most equipped to manage this shift.
