Jaishankar Speaks with EU VP Kaja Kallas

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar spoke on the phone with European Commission Vice-President Kaja Kallas to discuss the current conflict in Iran and the Gulf area.

In a post on X, Jaishankar stated, "Conducted a teleconference with EU HRVP @kajakallas. Our conversations centered on the current turmoil in Iran and the Gulf.

This follows the US and Israel executing synchronized airstrikes in various Iranian cities on February 28, aimed at military command centers, air-defense systems, missile locations, and crucial regime infrastructure. This led to the fatalities of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei and four high-ranking military and security officials, with significant blasts reported in Tehran and several other key cities.

Iran responded by firing ballistic missiles and drones at US interests and allies throughout the region, such as Israel, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan, deepening the conflict in the Middle East and increasing dangers for both civilians and expatriates.

On March 1, Jaishankar held discussions with his counterparts from multiple Gulf nations due to increasing tensions in West Asia, emphasizing the necessity of de-escalation via dialogue and diplomacy.

He stated that India is worried about the worsening situation and emphasized the nation’s keen interest in regional stability and the security of the Indian community residing in the area.

In a message on X, Jaishankar noted, "I just communicated with Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, the Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia." Discussed perspectives on the current situation in the Gulf. Emphasized India's interests in maintaining regional peace and stability as well as in the well-being of the Indian community.

In a separate message, he mentioned that he had a conversation with Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Kuwait's Foreign Minister, who informed him about the current situation in the nation.
