Spain's President Lands in India to Attend AI Impact Summit

President Pedro Sanchez Perez-Castejon of Spain arrived in India to participate in the AI Impact Summit 2026 and received a warm welcome from Jayant Singh, the Minister of State for Skills Development and Entrepreneurship.
The Summit convened government officials, AI industry professionals, scholars, technological innovators, and members of civil society from various countries in New Delhi to drive forward international dialogues on artificial intelligence.
The India AI Impact Summit, the inaugural global AI summit to take place in the Global South, seeks to deliberate on the revolutionary capabilities of AI in accordance with the national vision of "Sarvajana Hitaya, Sarvajana Sukhaya" (benefit and happiness for all) and the global principle of AI for Humanity.

More than 110 countries, 30 international organizations, approximately 20 heads of state or government, and around 45 ministers are expected to participate in the Summit. The AI summit forms an integral component of an ever-developing global initiative focused on enhancing collaboration at an international level concerning the governance, security, and influence of AI.
The India AI Impact Summit 2026 is guided by three fundamental pillars known as Sutras, which encompass People, Planet, and Progress. These Sutras serve as the foundational principles that underpin worldwide collaboration on artificial intelligence.
Their goal is to encourage the development of human-centered artificial intelligence that protects rights and guarantees fair advantages within societies, promotes environmentally sustainable progress in AI, and fosters inclusive economic and technological growth.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1956, India and Spain have maintained a harmonious and cooperative relationship.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted an official bilateral visit to Spain on 30-31 May 2017. Leaders from India and Spain convened during the G20 Summits in 2018 and 2021 and engaged in a telephone conversation on 15th February 2023, during which they conveyed optimism regarding the progression of relations between their respective nations.

The EAM engaged in discussions with Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares in New York during the United Nations General Assembly sessions of September 2024 and September 2022.
Additionally, FM Albares conducted a bilateral visit to India in June 2022. Furthermore, he made two more visits to India in 2023, first to participate in the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in March and then to attend the G20 Summit in September of the same year.

Teresa Ribera, the Third Vice President and Minister of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, undertook a diplomatic visit to India spanning from the 7th to the 9th of February in the year 2024.
