Jaishankar, UK Foreign Secretary Discuss Common Economic Priorities

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar described the India-UK collaboration as a “progressive highway” of “common economic goals and advanced technology” during his meeting with British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper.

The two ministers, alongside Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, oversaw two education-focused developments, which involved the delivery of an approval letter to the University of Liverpool for setting up its campus in Bengaluru, and a MoU between King’s College London and the National Maritime Foundation to create the Regional Maritime Security Centre for Excellence.

Cooper also met with PM Narendra Modi during her all-day visit, and the PM expressed that he “valued the strengthening of the India-UK partnership lately that has created unparalleled growth prospects for both our nations.” “India-UK Vision 2035 will persist in directing our collaboration and enhancing our collective endeavors for the global benefit,” Modi stated.

Jaishankar, who encountered Cooper during her initial trip to India as Foreign Secretary, stated, “We assessed the current advances in our collaboration emphasizing trade, technology, supply chains, defense, climate, education, and connections among people. Additionally discussed fresh prospects in clean energy, artificial intelligence, and essential minerals.”

He mentioned that they also shared opinions on global events, including those in Ukraine, West Asia, and the Indo-Pacific. “Our extensive Strategic Partnership driven by #Vision2035 keeps progressing,” he stated.

During the earlier bilateral meeting, Jaishankar mentioned that India and the UK are ideally situated to build a future-focused and mutually advantageous partnership based on their recently solidified comprehensive trade agreement and the defence industrial roadmap.

Emphasizing the completion of the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement, Jaishankar noted that CETA tackles various issues related to establishing strong supply chains and addressing concerns in trade, energy, food, and economic security.
