Belgian potato manufacturer Agristo is broadening its European presence with a €350 million (USD 405 million) investment in Hauts-de-France, France.
The initiative is projected to generate roughly 300 employment opportunities and will set up the firm's second-largest manufacturing site, situated about 120 kilometers from its original facility in Belgium.
Instead of maintaining its main markets from Belgium, Agristo decided to set up operations just over the border in Hauts-de-France.
The approach aims to enhance the company's connection with its customers, as France and the United Kingdom are Agristo’s two biggest markets, while also improving logistics operations and bolstering its position in the French market.
For its growth in Europe, Agristo focused solely on the Hauts-de-France area. Various elements affected the choice, such as the area's robust potato supply foundation.
Hauts-de-France lies in the center of France's top potato-growing region, offering access to premium local resources and fostering a dependable supply chain for potato processing.
The firm also pinpointed appropriate land for the initiative, with the new establishment set to be located on a brownfield site. This offers Agristo a defined site while aiding in the revitalization of previously utilized industrial land.
A significant benefit is the region’s developed agri-food system. Hauts-de-France boasts a high concentration of food-processing firms, agricultural knowledge, and potential business allies, fostering an atmosphere ideal for Agristo’s growth.
Support from local stakeholders was also a crucial element. The company gained advantages from customized support provided by local and regional stakeholders while forming its investment strategies and choosing the location.

The new facility will be Agristo's second-largest location, expanding the group's production presence while maintaining proximity to its current Belgian ecosystem. The comparatively brief distance between the two sites is anticipated to facilitate coordination between them and uphold robust connections with Agristo’s existing supply and operational network.
The €350 million (USD 405 million) initiative emphasizes Agristo’s approach to growing globally while staying closely linked to its current agricultural, industrial, and customer network.
