Ampere and Basquevolt Sign Joint Development Agreement

Ampere, the electric vehicle (EV) and software subsidiary of Renault Group, has entered into a joint development agreement with Basquevolt to expedite the advancement of lithium metal-based battery technology. The collaboration seeks to fulfill the needs of Pre-A Sample prototypes for upcoming electric vehicles.

Basquevolt’s lithium metal battery technology provides greater energy density than existing lithium-ion batteries that use liquid electrolytes.

The technology merges polymer electrolyte with a sophisticated anode, which the firms claim may facilitate compact, lightweight battery packs featuring enhanced thermal stability and rapid charging abilities.

Pablo Fernández, CEO of Basquevolt, stated: “Progressing into this next phase with Ampere signifies a significant milestone in our goal to advance polymer electrolyte technology towards the mass market.”

Nicolas Racquet, Vice President of Vehicle and Powertrain Engineering at Ampere, stated: “We are united in validating performance under actual automotive conditions and speeding up the shift to next-generation EV batteries that cater to our customers' changing requirements.”

The two businesses have been working together for over a year. Basquevolt asserts that its polymer electrolyte facilitates a more straightforward manufacturing process, leading to about 30percent reduced capital investment per GW/h and 30percent lower energy usage per kW/h generated.
