President Droupadi Murmu arrived in Moldova on Monday to begin her three-nation European tour, marking a significant milestone as the first visit by an Indian president to the Eastern European country.
The elevated diplomatic schedule aims to strengthen bilateral collaboration with Moldova, North Macedonia, and Romania in crucial areas such as trade, digital innovation, and tourism.
While in Moldova for her official duties, President Murmu is expected to have bilateral conversations with President Maia Sandu and meet with Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu.
Additionally, the President will hold talks with the Moldova-India Parliamentary Friendship Group, give a keynote speech at a Business Forum, and organize an interaction with the local Indian community.
"Upon her arrival at Chisinau International Airport, she was warmly greeted by Mr. Mihai Popsoi, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova," stated Rashtrapati Bhavan in a post on X.

Situated between Romania and Ukraine, Moldova is a landlocked country in Eastern Europe covering an area of 33,846 sq km.
The nation acts as a major center for Indian expatriates, accommodating about 2,000 Indian nationals, which includes roughly 1,800 medical students, making the Indian population one of the largest international student groups in the country.

After completing her one-day visit to Moldova, President Murmu will move on to North Macedonia for a two-day trip from July 21 to 22, marking another diplomatic milestone for an Indian President.
During the final stage of her deployment, she will travel to Romania from July 23 to 25 at the request of Romanian President Nicuor Dan.
The forthcoming visit marks the first by an Indian head of state to Bucharest in more than thirty years.
